Listen to Mont Jake.
Mont Jake is the latest in a line of Danish artists, joining Goss – who we featured last month – on our playlists of late. The elusive soul singer has been making more of a name for himself – as well as showing his face more and opening up to interviews – in recent times and we were taken aback by his talents when we saw him support Parcels in autumn last year.
Signed to Island Records, the artist’s talents – which include writing, producing and singing all of his own music – has already caught the attention of many industry leaders and led him to collaborate with Wu Tang’s Masta Killa and Noname, as well as Assassin, a favourite of Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West.
His latest Seventies-tinged release, Daydreaming, is soulful and addictive. The video was filmed around Brixton, Dalston and Tokyo. With his glossy electronic soul tracks and honeyed voice, Mont Jake is undoubtedly one to watch. Some people liken his music to Jamie Woon and James Blake, but it’s so individual it needs a few minutes of your time to listen for yourself.
