Joshua Kane has grown to prominence over the past few years, owing to his sharp suits, impressive shows (for the past two seasons held at Christ Church in London’s Spitalfields) and the famous faces who love to be seen with some JK threads on their back. After building his clientele in his store in Spitalfields and online, the designer and tailor has just opened his second store in Central London and is assured of even more success in 2017.
“It’s been surprising the way it has grown, but it has grown very organically too. People really like the brand and what we stand for. We have a healthy following on social media already, but through the collections and friends of the brand, the exposure we get is phenomenal,” Kane told Candid Magazine last year.
Kane’s own dandy style has become instantly recognisable and it has evolved from his days studying fashion design at Kingston University. From there he went on to work for industry leaders like Brooks Brothers, Paul Smith, Jaeger and Burberry, eventually moving on to create his eponymous line after 10 years.
Now as a retail resident of Central London, in a corner location in Fitzrovia set back from the chaotic Oxford Street, some have wondered why Kane didn’t choose a more traditional location like Savile Row.
“I don’t think we would get on with Savile Row,” Kane admitted. “I think we would upset more people than we attract just from the uniqueness of the brand and what we offer. I’m quite proud to be offering something a little different to Savile Row while still offering the same kind of quality and service that those customers can expect from more traditional tailors on Savile Row. In fact, moving away from bespoke and offering our ready to wear suits with a complimentary alteration service has seen us open up to more customers, making it more accessible to them.”
