As we edge closer to Milan Design Week, the six day event that encompasses the Salone del Mobile – the annual international furniture exhibition Fiera Milano – and various design exhibitions throughout the Italian city, many places and events have made their way onto our hitlist.
From the main exhibition space to under-the-radar showcases and much-hyped attractions, like Cos’s collaboration with Swine Studios and Tom Dixon’s designs for IKEA, it’s near impossible to see everything. With more than 2,000 exhibitors, a display area of more than 270,000 square meters and thousands of new products premiered at the event, the Salone is the benchmark trade fair on an international level, attracting more than 372,000 visitors from as many as 165 countries.
In true sfd tradition, we have made a guide of the Milan highlights that will ensure you get to see, shop, visit and eat the best that Italy’s most populous city has to offer. Don’t leave for MDW without downloading our not-for-tourists guide and having it in your iBooks armoire. Or print it out and stuff it in your hand luggage if you’re old-fashioned like some of us. It’s nice to be prepared – and smugly knowledgeable when recommendation requests are fired in your direction.
